Filling Up Your Spa (The Correct Way)

  • The correct way to fill up your spa in via the filter housing.
  • Remove any skimmer baskets, filters and items inside the housing.
  • Place the hose pipe into the filter tube remembering to remove any hose pipe connectors on the hose.

This will fill up the heating tube up, the circulation pump and then any filtration / heating linking pipes to prevent airlocks and error messages when turning on your spa

Where To Fill My Spa Too

The recommended water height is always between the highest jet and the head rest depending on how level your spa is. Shoulder firing jets are ok to not be under water, just the jets pointing to your back needs to be fully under to stop the water firing out the spa and prevent air getting back into the system

When My Spa Is Full Do I Add Chemicals ?

Yes, You can add a fine powered water shock like spa revive or rapid shock (sold online)  simply add 2 scoops to hot water in you mixing jug, turn on all the jets and pour into the filter housing area with the filter in place.

It is advised not to add any more chemicals until the spa is 26`c or above as the chemicals will not dissolve properly.

Always leave the lid off the spa for 30 mins to 1 hour for the chlorine gasses to evaporate, this will stop any damages to the lid and to the head rests.

We always advice removing your head rests when you are not in the spa so the chemicals added will not react to the head rests materials.

When My Spa Is Full Do I Add Chemicals ?

The below is a recommended routine 15 minutes before you are wanting to use your spa.

  • Test you chlorine levels be adding a test strip in to the spa.
  • With your results, add any chlorine required by the results on the test strip. As a rule of thumb it is 1 scoop (provided by the engineers) of chlorine per box on the aqua sparkle test stripes. Add the amount of scoops required into a jug of spa water and mix until dissolved. With the jets on add the chlorine / water mix into the filter housing .
  • After 10 minutes test the water again adding any ph / TA plus testaments required again one scoop per box. ( if the ph is 2 boxes below OK then it will be 2 scoops of PH Plus) Add the PH or TA to a jug of spa water, mix till dissolved and add into the spa via the filter housing with the jets on.

On most tests you will not need to add ph to the spa but the ph will rise when adding chlorine hence adding ph after chlorine.  Please remember be is important as if it is too low its like acid and will damage your spa metals and seals, too high and its has too many minerals which will cause a lime scale build up. This will crumble your plastics and seals and leave large white patches around the spa.

Can I use chlorine tablets and chlorine granules?

Not a problem, chorine tablets are slow dissolving to these will continuously keep sanitizer levels high and keep you safe. Granules and tables also kill different bacteria’s when mixed so by adding 2 tablets a week and setting the float to a low amount is fine

There Is Foam Building Up In My Spa?

House hold detergents and body lotions can mix together in a spa a cause a foam build up which isn’t present. One or two caps of anti foam will remove this from your spa instantly before your eyes. Be careful not to add too much as this is silicone based and can block up your pipes. By using the same costume or trunks in the spa and letting them dry without washing them will prevent a foam build up.

You Are now Safe To Use And Enjoy Your Spa

What Is Shocking And Why Do I Need To Do This?

We shock a spa with either Rapid Shock, Spa Revive (recommended) or non chlorine shock once a week or after heavy usage (if a few people have been in the spa at once or children have been in and out)

Why ? Well when you add chlorine or bromine into a spa this the starts off a free chlorine. When the chlorine is moving around the spa and finds any bacteria in the water, it captures the bacterial infections and hold them in a cell with then turns the chlorine cell into a dead chlorine.0

Shocking the water removes the dead chlorine out the spa and if used chlorine contained shock replaces the dead chlorine new fresh clean chlorine.

Shocking the water will spa revive will also remove dead skin cells, shampoos and deodorants, and any bacteria, organic contaminations and anything that could be growing in the pipes.

This also is good water reset when the water is looking a little cloudy and unpleasant and smells like a fish pond.

When adding shock into a spa always remember to leave the lid off 30 minutes to 1 hour to let the gasses release from the spa.

2 x Scoop – weekly reset or after heavy usage  – 3 x Scoops On a clean water refill

What Is The Correct Way To Clean My Spa filters?

Cleaning your filter is so important to keep your spa water clean clear and safe. Here is the correct way to clean a set of filters.

  • Take of the filters and evenly spray a trigger filter cleaner around the filter ( We recommend a Gold Horizon Rapid Filter Cleaner)
  • Leave the filter to absorb the cleaner for 30 minutes.
  • Place the filters into a bucket of hot water and leave for a couple of hours to soak.
  • Remove the filters and gently hose down the filters to remove excess bits and cleaner.
  • If possible let the filters dry in a warm place, this will allow the cones to shrink into themselves making your filter last longer.

We recommend having a second set to place into the spa whilst carrying out this process.

Rotating the spas can save a lot of time and prolong the life of the filters.

We recommend you do not

  • Power jet clean the filters – You will damage the cones and expand the cones
  • Clean in a dish washer – You can attract unwanted bacteria’s into the spa and cause harm by putting spa bacteria on your plates. Remember just because you cannot see it doesn’t mean it is not there.
  • Use a filter when it is damaged or expanded badly – This will restrict water going to the heater tube and pump and may burn out the heater element or damage the pumps impeller / wetend. A new quality filter is -£30 new pump is £300 plus you decide.

We recommend replacing your filters every 3 months so 2 sets rotating will last you 6 month.

Draining And Cleaning Your Spa The Right Way

Draining And Cleaning Your Spa The Right Way

Every three months we recommend a water change and basic clean to keep your spa looking great and operating the correctly. Here is a routine to carry this out. (available on our store)

  • Add a flush product and run for 2 hours – this is great for removing bacteria and bio film hidden in the pipes and can also remove chemical build ups.
  • Drain the spa using a fast water pump (sump pump) this makes life easier and can be drained out within 30 minutes.
  • Rise out the spa with a hose pipe or power jet cleaner to get rid of any flush or old chemicals.
  • Use a wet and dry hoover to remove any water in the foot well, bits in the spa and by putting the hoover end on every jet you will remove all the old water out the pipes to stop contamination when you refill the spa.
  • Use a spa surface cleaner to clean the sides of the spa. We do not recommend house cleaners as they will cause the spa to foam up and sit in the pipes. Rise off the cleaner.
  • Dry the shell and clean the lid and steps if required. You can treat the shell and lid to a uv cleaning spray (sold online) to protect them from the sun and make them water repellent.
  • Refill from the filter housing like above.

We recommend a deep clean service check over once a year to keep your spa save a spot any issues than may have started developing – Contact us for a quote.
